Introduction

YEP FreeBundle.png

I have been getting a lot of questions lately about why the Yanfly Engine Plugins library offers 40 free plugins and the VisuStella MZ plugin only offers 10, ie the "Cores". This wiki article is made to draw comparisons between what the plugins do offer and what is actually in the VisuStella MZ Cores.

Yanfly.png This is an article written by Yanfly.

tl;dr: The VisuStella MZ Cores are composed of way more plugins than 40 from Yanfly Engine Plugins. Look at what's inside them.

What's Free from Yanfly Engine Plugins?

First, let's take a look at what is considered free coming from Yanfly Engine Plugins. These plugins are a part of the Free Starter Pack Essentials bundle that can be downloaded from my itch.io page. These are the following plugins included:

Now, I know some of you are able to look through that list and go "Hey, wait a minute! Isn't XYZ plugin free in the Yanfly Engine Plugins freebie bundle but a paid plugin in the VisuStella MZ library? What gives!?" Great question! Let's go through that!

Why Certain Plugins Became Paid Plugins

These are the plugins that became paid plugins from Yanfly Engine Plugins' freebie bundle going into VisuStella MZ.

Below, I'll be explaining why they did not make the cut to go and become part of the VisuStella MZ Cores.

Action Sequence Pack 3

YEP.006.jpg

Those familiar with Action Sequence Pack 3 (YEP) will know that it's the one responsible for camera panning and zooming. This plugin was later remade into Action Sequence Camera VisuStella MZ.

The reasoning behind not including it in the Battle Core (whereas Action Sequence Packs 1 and 2 are included in VisuStella MZ's Battle Core) is because of non-VisuStella MZ plugins. We know that there are many of you who prefer to use Mog Hunter's libraries for their visual effects and the battle camera is one of them. However, we also know that external battle camera plugins are extremely likely to conflict with our own. Therefore, instead of making the using them together with the Battle Core an uphill battle, we separated the camera effects into a different plugin for more compatibility.

Battle Systems - ATB, CTB, STB

YEP.130.jpg

These battle system plugins were added to the Yanfly Engine Plugins' freebie bundle for a simple reason: they have discontinued support. You can read here for the reasons why. It would make very little sense to include them in any other pack for freebie bundle.

The other thing is, it makes very little sense to package entire battle systems into the Battle Core even if they cannot be used without it. This is because games tend to use only one battle system and having the Battle Core pack multiple battle systems inside of it adds unnecessary amounts of bulk. Especially if the user is to pick only one of the many.

Battle A.I. Core

YEP.016.jpg

The Battle A.I. Core was remade into the Battle A.I. plugin for VisuStella MZ. The reason why it was not included in the VisuStella Battle Core is because it affected enemy behavior too much for what should otherwise be straightforward to use from the RPG Maker MZ editor. Another reason why this especially was not included was because the new Battle A.I. was planned to incorporate the AI list straight into what the editor used for Action Patterns and the change would likely confuse new game devs as to why enemies aren't acting according to plan.

Victory Aftermath

YEP.007.jpg

The Yanfly Engine Plugins version of Victory Aftermath is not the same as VisuStella MZ's version of Victory Aftermath. Instead, the VisuStella MZ version of it is from Victory Sequence UI (Olivia).

Other reasons why the Yanfly Engine Plugins version was not included is because other non-VisuStella plugins also offering victory screens. Yes, people use non-VisuStella plugins, too, especially if they want their game to look different in certain aspects. The victory screen is one of them. For proof, look at how many people flocked to Victory Sequence UI (Olivia) while Victory Aftermath existed as a free option. Having the Victory Aftermath plugin as a part of the Battle Core would add unnecessary complications for users.

Another reason why the Yanfly Engine Plugins version was not included was because towards the end of MV's lifespan, there were a growing number of complaints about Victory Aftermath. These complaints mainly had to do with how many button presses there are needed to in order to leave the screen, despite the fact it already reduced the number of button presses needed. However, it is still a valid complaint as Olivia's version of the victory screen sped up the process considerable.

Why Certain Plugins Don't Exist In VisuMZ

And these are the ones that don't exist in VisuStella MZ:
